About Me

After close to ten years as a therapist, I still look forward to counseling clients each day!

Catherine Naylor, LCMHC

I relocated to Charlotte, NC in 2016 after earning my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas. For the past eight years I have served as a counselor to clients of all ages. During the 2020 pandemic I transitioned to remote counseling. Virtual therapy is not a fit for every client but works well for many.

During virtual therapy sessions my clients are able to meet with me from wherever they are in the state. I find virtual sessions to be conducive to the spirit of therapy. Clients are able to show up as they are. I enjoy the informality while maintaining firm boundaries.

About Me

I’ve been a counselor for eight years and have wanted to help people all my life. Accepting the call to become a counselor is the best decision I’ve ever made! The peace, the purpose, the passion I feel is immeasurable. In session, you can expect to be met with unconditional positive regard and receive my full undivided attention.

Mission & Vision

My hope is to guide each client towards a healthier, more authentic and more fulfilling way of living. As a therapist and as a person I start by creating an environment where the other person feels seen and heard. I challenge them by gently confronting any dysfunctional ways of thinking. This includes double standards. Many clients either expect more from themselves than they do from others or do not give understanding in the same situation in which they would want to receive it. Like in the healthiest relationships, my clients are both shown empathy and held accountable. Our therapeutic relationship is meant to serve as a model of healthy relationships with their present and future natural supports.

I envision my clients then living out healthy relationships in their personal and professional lives. As we have all seen, one life will touch infinite others. For every client who walks through this journey several other lives will be impacted as a result. The positive changes they make will help shape the lives of others around them. It is my hope that those who cross paths with my clients will be positively impacted by their time in therapy. The impact won’t stop there but rather multiply like a beautiful butterfly effect.

Does therapy work?

About 75 percent of people say they benefitted from therapy, according to an APA study. “Research shows that most people who receive psychotherapy experience symptom relief and are better able to function in their lives. “

u

What are the benefits of therapy?

Therapy has been shown to improve emotion regulation, increase job satisfaction, enhance coping, and increase one’s sense of well-being. Therapy is linked to a reduction in medical issues, fewer sick days, and positive changes in the brain and body. Some studies have revealed brain changes similar to those produced by psychotropic medication.

u

How long will therapy take?

When participating in most forms of talk therapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), there is no predetermined timeframe. A therapist typically cannot tell the client how many sessions will be needed. While there are certain specialized approaches that have been standardized to be completed in a specific number of sessions (i.e., Eye movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), most therapy approaches can require anywhere from several weeks to longer than a year.

Does telehealth work?

Studies performed by various sources have shown there are no significant differences between therapy services received virtually compared to face-to-face. In other words, clients receiving telehealth services experienced the same benefits as those seen in person.
