Top Specialities
I apply an eclectic approach, rooted in CBT to treat a wide range of mental health conditions. The following are a few of the areas in which my clients report experiencing life-altering transformations.
Anxiety
Anxiety is a part of life to some degree for everyone and under the right circumstances it even serves a purpose. Anxiety protects us by alerting our brain and body that something is wrong. However, when our fear response is out of proportion or out of place it can cause unnecessary distress and even limit our functioning. I have found CBT, Exposure Therapy, Mindfulness, and attending to spiritual and physical health to be highly effective in the management of anxiety.
Depression
At its core depression is characterized by negative views or expectations of yourself, others and/or life. Successful treatment of depression entails reconstructing these views and expectations. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is applied along with an eclectic array of other approaches to reconstruct dysfunctional thought patterns. CBT uses the relationship between your emotions, thoughts, and behavior to improve your quality of life.
Communication
Many have said communication is the key to a healthy relationship. I would add, assertiveness is the foundation of effective communication. Many individuals, couples and families struggle to communicate in a way that is clear and direct while appropriately accounting for their feelings and those of others. In therapy you will learn how to authentically communicate your needs and wants in a way that yields the desired results.
Eating Disorders
At the core of repairing eating disorders is understanding their root(s). Low self-esteem is more often than not a root. Many factors contribute to our self-esteem, including environment, culture, the views of others, etc. Using CBT, Mindfulness, Strengths-Based approaches and more I will guide the client through developing a more balanced view of self. We’ll walk through processes that foster awareness and use of your strengths, reconstruct disordered thought patterns, change the way you talk about yourself and communicate with others. You will improve your relationship with food and yourself.
Self-Esteem
Building secure self-esteem often involves gaining a clearer, more balanced picture of who you are and what you can control. On this journey you will discover your strengths and redefine self-worth. You will acquire assertiveness skills and even learn from your mistakes and perceived failures. This process can result in better relating to yourself and those around you, understanding your power, recognizing the difference between what you can and cannot control, and accepting those things beyond your control.
Don’t wait to start therapy…
Many people delay starting therapy for months or years! Have you been wondering will the reward outweigh the risks? The truth is waiting only delays your opportunity to experience an improved quality of life. According to the American Psychiatric Association, “Research shows that most people who receive psychotherapy experience symptom relief and are better able to function in their lives. About 75 percent of people who enter psychotherapy show some benefit from it.”
They go on to say, talk therapy has been linked to improved job satisfaction, fewer medical issues and positive changes in the brain and body, among other benefits.
According to the American Psychological Association (APA), telehealth results are essentially the same as face-to-face therapy. I only have one more question for you. What are you waiting for?
